I have just become aware of this source for statistics on email marketing, covering all aspects an email marketer would be interested.
This email marketing statistics portal is usefully categorised into all the main challenges of email marketing that need to be managed. For example, statistics are available on:

It is managed by the Email Experience Council which has been around for a couple of years now. They also have a useful Email marketing blog if you're not aware of it.
The only weakness with this resource is that only a snippet is given for each stat. Useful for presentations. A source is given, but without a link, so requires a bit of digging to substatiate it. ESPs can also upload their own stats for PR purposes.

Good source but need to improve
I like areas of research they have given to us and I hope with the passage of time it will improve and grow better. I also review my approach regularly for my email services in order to increase my opt ins.
