HTML E-mail - Guidelines for Email Templates & E-newsletters
Q. What are the differences required when coding HTML for E-newsletters? Can you point me to any guidelines.
Creating Email templates using HTML isn't as straightforward as creating web sites using HTML. I would always use an agency or developer who has experience of this. Many techniques you may use like linked Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) won't work so you have to create in-line CSS. What works in one email reader may not work in another.
These are the two best guides I have seen for taking you through the tricks. Let me know if you know of any other freely available ones.

From a communications effectiveness point of view, this what I run through in my workshops where I ask...
Do you have templates that...
- Don’t look like templates…
- For different marketing activities?
- With blocks for tailoring content? That prioritise offers?
- With full range of relevant standard features? i.e. Table of contents, Search and category browse on site, Update profile, Printing, Forward to a friend
- Prompts on managing deliverability / view ability?
- Templates that are scannable and skimmable?
- Templates that maximise response?

I've set it up to be quick, but you can't add true hyperlinks - just text.
