Google Sitemaps penalty
Q. I have a got a number of sites indexed by Google, and I control all of the Google Sitemaps via a single sitemaps account. We know that Google likes to bump up PageRanks of sites which have links from high PR sites. I control a .ac.uk website and have a link from the front page of this to my personal website. Now, in theory, the kudos of having a link from a high PR page should bump up the PR of my personal site. However, will Google ignore it as they can see (via Google sitemaps) that I control both sites?
If you have a number of sites interlinked for SEO purposes, I would recommend using different Google Sitemaps accounts (now part of Google Webmaster Tools) for each site for this very reason and this is what I do. However, if you believe the Google ‘Don’t be Evil’ mantra and consider the fact that there may be legitimate reasons why someone may manage several sites through a single sitemaps account (like a search agency managing different client sites), then I think it is highly unlikely Google will penalize you. So I think your personal site should benefit from this arrangement provided the link context is right - remember the link anchor text, body copy and page <title> of the referring page should refer to the topic of the destination URL for you to get the most benefit.

I've set it up to be quick, but you can't add true hyperlinks - just text.
