Used Textbooks / Text books for sale

Used textbooks are a great choice if you are looking for the cheapest source of student text books. This post explains the best choices for finding text books for sale. As an author of several business texts I know how expensive new texts are and there is a booming market for second hand texts.

Buying Used textbooks on Amazon UK

To buy used textbooks for students I recommend browsing Amazon UK for the text you are looking for and then using the Amazon Marketplace option. This link explain how to buy used textbooks on Amazon.

A good approach is to use the 'ZShops' option on the Search (the old name for the marketplace - meant to deliberately confuse) and then sort by price which gives you the cheapest text books at the top. Try this example for my book:

As long as you check the reputation of the seller you should be fine. I have bought and sold many secondhand books in the marketplace without a problem. Remember you can check the book's condition and many are mint.

I recommend Amazon first since I think they have the biggest inventory of secondhand text books, so you are more likely to be able to find what you are looking for.

Take care that you have the most recent edition though. Also remember that you may miss out on add-ons - my publisher uses a password key available to new purchasers to give access to multiple choice questions.

Buying Used text books - other options

Other options include eBay where its slightly less easy to find the book you want and Sell Student Books.

If you don't want to boost the Yankee dollar, try another independent site for buying and selling books - Sell Student Books.

Please add other examples you know of to share below.

Please add your comments, experiences or link suggestions to inform me and other visitors to my site.

I've set it up to be quick, but you can't add true hyperlinks - just text.

Here are a couple of other options for getting the best price on textbooks. At CollegeSwapShop.com, there is a free used textbook exchange, which is local so there is no shipping.

Granted, this site looks like a startup because it doesnt have alot of textbooks posted, but there is also a tool to compare textbook prices at many online bookstores.

With resources like this, there is no reason to get ripped on on textbooks. Here is a list of other sites that offer similar features:
- eCampus.com
- bigwords.com
- abeBooks.com
- textbookX.com

Textbook411.com is also a good option for new or used textbooks, it compares prices at atleast 20 bookstores and is a bit faster and sleaker than the others. Plus they buy books back at the end of the semester, which is nice.

SmartBookFinder.com

Based on my experience (wow I sound old) in college I found using a book price comparison search engine was the best way to save money on my books. There are huge price disparties between on-line bookstores and these websites help illustrate that fact. The best today is SmartBookFinder: http://www.smartbookfinder.com. It has a cool feature that allows you to find books that you can get shipped to you in 1-7 days. That is very helpful for college students who might need their textbooks ASAP.
