Affiliate marketing books
There are many affiliate marketing books for affiliates, but this book is useful since it is an excellent affiliate marketing book for marketers managing affiliate programmes. Also useful for affiliates for understanding how they can work better with the merchants they are promoting.
A practical guide to Affiliate Marketing
Quick reference for affiliate managers and merchants
- Author: Evgenni "Geno" Prussakov - Availability is better from Amazon US - that's where i picked up my copy.
- My rating: 5/5
- See reviews on "Affiliate marketing" from Amazon UK
- See reviews (15+) on Amazon US
- Brief review: I highly recommend this book since it is structured around a series of practical questions that any marketer putting together an affiliate marketing plan needs to answer. This makes it really easy to follow, but practical at the same time.
The book is based on three levels from someone new to affiliate marketing to pro to more advanced questions.
Here are some example questions:
- What is the affiliate right commission level?
Geno recommends that a base commission should be 20-25% of gross profit margin, allowing for growth.
- What should go into an Affiliate Programme agreement?
Geno gives an example template and discusses typical problems like excluding brand bidding
- What is the best cookie expiry period: 1, 7, 30, 60-90 days?
As a programme manager across many programmes Geno has some interesting surveys and statistics results on this and many other affiliate issues. He recommends 60-90 days typically.
- What are the right link types
In order of popularity with affiliates: Text, feeds, banners - gives the best dimensions and formats to include.
My only criticisms are around the lack of content contextualising affiliate marketing in the wider marketing mix. How can affiliate marketing be incorporated into campaign promotions? How can it integrate with search marketing to improve weak areas of Pay Per Click marketing and SEO.
